Malayalam actress Gilu Joseph had become talk of the town after her breastfeeding picture was published on the cover page of Malayalam magazine Grihalakshmi. The actress joined the campaign started by Grihalakshmi magazine, after a young woman named Amritha received a lot of criticism on her breastfeeding picture, which was posted on her Facebook page.
Gilu Joseph, who acted in Malayalam films such as Nonsense, Abrahaminte Santhathigal and Parole, revealed that even she had to fight lot of criticism at her home about this bold photoshoot. “I am extremely proud of my body and only I exercise rights over it. I only do things that I think is right for me, which is why I had no qualms in taking up this project. It is a problem to interpret this sexually. Isn’t it a beautiful thing, friends? Why do you think it is wrong? Which god will be angry if you feed your child” shared Gilu Joseph.
This cover page had created lot of buzz on social media. While some users praised the actress for being progressive, others were angry with this cover photo saying, “Gilu Joseph is Christian, but why she is posing as Hindu mother in this Photoshoot? Does she think that Christians are progressive and Hindus are regressive? Can you dare to publish the same picture of women in burqa breastfeeding the baby? Why are you trying to make this a religious thing?"
