NTR Mahanayakudu, the second part of the NTR biopic, was released worldwide on January 22 2019. The film had opened to mixed to negative reviews from both critics and audience alike and turned out to be a huge embarrassment for both Balakrishna and director Krish once again after NTR Kathanayakudu.
The film director, Krish, confidently mentioned in his interviews that NTR Mahanayakudu will collect all the money that NTR Kathanayakudu could not collect, along with the interest amount. However, the box office numbers of this movie turned out to be complete opposite to Krish statement. While NTR Kathanayakudu could collect a total share of Rs 7.5 crore on its first day in Telugu states, NTR Mahanayakudu could not even collect 20% of that money on its first day in Telugu states and shocked everyone by collecting just Rs 1.25 crore.
The sad part is that NTR Mahanayakudu could not even beat RGV’s disaster movie, Officer, collections in some areas. For example, Officer collected a day 1 gross of Rs 3.5 lakhs from RTC X roads theater, but NTR Mahanayakudu day 1 gross at the same theatre stood at meagre 1.6 lakhs. Its high time that our directors and actors stop taking audience for granted in the name of real life stories.
